Cheshire East Council will not be introducing weekly food waste collections until the autumn.
This also means the council’s plans to change black bin collections from fortnightly to three-weekly will be delayed until the same time
Quiz kings and queens in Nantwich have rounded off the year by giving a bumper cash boost to the Shelter charity shop in town.
Regulars at The Black Lion Monday night quiz chipped into a collection and gave to a raffle to raise £386.50 for the Beam Street charity shop at their Christmas event.
Crewe & Nantwich Round Table has raised almost £18,000 in this year’s Santa Float collections.
The total amount of £17,738.29 is the organisation’s largest ever collection.
Crewe and Nantwich residents are being encouraged to check the council’s website for changes to their bin collection schedule during the festive period.
There will be no black or silver bin collections on any of the Bank Holidays – Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day.

I am writing to express my deep frustration and disgust at Cheshire East Council’s decision to introduce three-weekly black bin collections from April 2026, despite significant opposition from residents and even some councillors.

The environment and communities committee voted narrowly by seven to six yesterday (Wednesday) to change to a three-weekly collection, with one councillor saying “the fact is we can’t afford to not do this”.
Residents across Nantwich and surrounding villages are being urged to check online for planned changes to bin collections during the festive period.
The council says it is no longer using stickers on bins to provide information due to cost-cutting.

The vice-chairman of Cheshire East’s environment and communities committee has quit because she is opposed to the council’s plans to introduce three-weekly black bin collections.
Crewe Labour councillor Dawn Clark is now planning to campaign against her own administration’s plans to empty the household waste bins just once every three weeks.
Residents are being urged to have their say on plans for weekly food waste collections across Cheshire East – and to reduce black bin collections to every three weeks.
The collections are part of the “Simpler Recycling Scheme” legislation announced by the Government in October 2023.
