The Friendly Mart store on High Street in Nantwich was among a number of outlets raided by police and trading standards today.
Cheshire Police carried out a number of warrants on premises as part of a crackdown on convenience stores suspected of being used for or engaged in criminal activity.
The store has been placed under a police “closure order” notice on the door.
It states the premises or person associated with premises is engaged or likely to be engaged “in disorder” and/or “is likely to result in serious public nuisance to the public”.
Two police cars and an unmarked white van were seen parked outside the Friendly Mart on High Street this afternoon.
Witnesses say the shutters are now down on the store and officers were seen carrying “bags of cigarettes” out of the shop.
It’s also reported there was a “police sniffer dog on the premises” and that the store has been raided previously.
At this stage, the police have not confirmed whether any items recovered were being sold without licence or that they were counterfeit, fake or being sold to underage users.
In a statement online, Nantwich Police said: “Residents may notice an increased police presence across Crewe and Nantwich this morning (July 2nd).
“Cheshire Police officers are working alongside Trading Standards to execute warrants at a number of convenience stores in both towns.
“The activity forms part of ongoing joint work to tackle criminality and protect our communities.
“Further updates will be provided in due course when appropriate to do so.”
