A Nantwich woman is to run a half marathon dressed in full motorcycle leathers – to raise money in memory of her brother who tragically died in a road accident.
Motorcycle-mad Josh Stockton died aged just 22 when he was involved in a collision on his bike with another vehicle on Crewe Road in Wistaston last year.
A roadside shrine attracted hundreds of items and tributes, and many bikers turned out for an emotional parade through Nantwich at his funeral.
His death touched the local community so much, the town council’s “Tree of Light” was dedicated to him when it was lit in December.
Now Josh’s older sister Lizzie Smith, also from Nantwich, wants to raise vital funds for the North West Air Ambulance who rushed to the scene of his accident last September.
She aims to complete the ASICS Manchester Half Marathon on October 4th dressed in full leathers as a tribute to her brother.
Lizzie said: “Josh meant the world to our family and his loss has been immeasurable.
“I know doing the run in leathers would make him smile – it’s a huge challenge but for a great cause.
“I have very fond memories of Josh teaching me and the my brothers how to ride scooters before this developed into his love for bikes.
“Particularly outside our old family home as our driveway was on a slope- we spent hours outside having fun and this is one of my favourite childhood memories.
“Josh was a kind, bubbly soul who brought laughter wherever he went. He was loved by so many, and his loss has left a huge hole in the lives of his family and friends. He is missed every single day.
“Although we couldn’t change the outcome, we take comfort in knowing that the North West Air Ambulance was there to provide expert care and support when it mattered most.
“We will always be grateful for everything they did.”
The North West Air Ambulance is a charity that relies entirely on donations to keep saving lives.
Lizzie added: “By running 13.1 miles in biker leathers, I hope to honour Josh’s memory while raising as much money as possible to help this incredible charity continue to be there for other families when they need it most.”
