Crewe and Nantwich community radio station The Cat (107.9FM) are hosting a quiz in memory of Chris Hughes, one of TV’s Eggheads.

Chris, from Crewe, died suddenly earlier this year.

Cheshire East Council backs Mayoral Combined Authority devolution plans

Cheshire East Council councillors have voted to support plans to establish a Mayoral Combined Authority for Cheshire and Warrington.

At its full council meeting today (September 17th), councillors narrowly backed the proposed devolution proposals which supporters say could unlock significant new powers and funding for transport, housing, skills, and economic growth.

Plans for new Leighton Hospital to be submitted before end of year

A planning application for the new Leighton Hospital will be submitted by the end of this year with construction expected to start in the spring of 2028.

Russ Favager, senior responsible officer, told a meeting of the Cheshire East health and wellbeing board the proposal is for a six-storey build, with space allocated for a multi-storey car park.

Crewe Vagrants CC second team clinched promotion in their penultimate match with a victory over local rivals Sandbach at home.

After winning the toss, Crewe decided to insert Sandbach and the visitors lost wickets regularly and finished 62 all out.

Councillors approve plan for new school sponsor in Basford East

The free school proposed for Basford East on the outskirts of Crewe was originally due to have opened this month.

Cllr Sarah Bennett-Wake was speaking after hearing one provider is charging Cheshire East Council £11,000 a week to care for one 17-year-old with complex needs.
