CEC approves 4.99% rise in Council Tax and mothballing tips

Cheshire East councillors have approved a budget for the next financial year which includes mothballing three tips and increasing council tax by 4.99%.

The council voted by 43 to 32 in favour of the budget which brings in a raft of savings measures including emergency tip closures at Bollington, Middlewich and Poynton from April.

A 72-bedroom care home will be built on Gresty Road in Shavington — despite concerns from one councillor it could burn down like the Notre Dame cathedral.

Cheshire East’s southern planning committee approved the plans yesterday (March 31), paving the way for the 2.5-storey facility to be built.

Plans to improve cycling and walking provision across Cheshire East have been approved by council leadership.

The CEC cabinet today approved the implementation of “Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans” (LCWIPs) — covering Crewe, Congleton, Macclesfield, and Wilmslow.

New care facility to replace Beechmere is approved by Cheshire East

A replacement for the fire-destroyed Beechmere Care Facility in Crewe has been approved by Cheshire East councillors.

Members granted planning permission for the new building, which will sit on the same site with the same 132 bedrooms, and a number of fire safety improvements compared to its predecessor.
