British Hen Welfare Trust rehomes 5,000th hen in Cheshire

The British Hen Welfare Trust in Cheshire has rehomed its 5,000th hen as a new pet.

The team, based in Nantwich and run by Cheshire coordinator David Marek, took more than 300 hens out of their colony cages and rehomed them to 61 different families earlier this month.

The event has been organised by the British Hen Welfare Trust, a national rehoming charity which saves more than 60,000 hens from slaughter every year.

The British Hen Welfare Trust team in Cheshire is on track to rehome the 1,000th hen of 2019 at their collection event this weekend (April 7).

So far this year, the team has helped send more than 940 hens off to pet homes, and save them from slaughter.
