Reaseheath College students give ducks a safe place to nest

Game and wildlife students at Reaseheath College in Nantwich have joined a project to build and install nesting tubes for mallard ducks.

The mallard, once the UK’s commonest wild duck, has seen its numbers drop over recent years and it is now on the Birds of Conservation Concern Amber list if concern for the species.

Hundreds of plastic ducks raced each other in Wistaston at the annnual “Duck Race and Children’s Model Boat Race” event.

Villagers gathered at the Joey the Swan Recreation ground for the event which was organised by members of the Wistaston Community Council.

Nantwich residents have voiced fears over poisonous food being left out for birds along River Weaver, prompting a warning from the RSPCA.

It comes after one reader spotted pieces of mouldy bread which had been scattered along the path by the river bank off Davenport Avenue and Manor Road.
