Young Nantwich Seals swimmers won a haul of medals and personal bests in two tough competitions. Fourteen swimmers made the journey to Warrington for the Percy Mason Memorial Gala and produced their best performance of the year.
A medal awarded to a Royal Navy hero from the second War of Independence in 1812, is to go on sale at a Nantwich auction. The medal is expected to fetch around £10,000 when it goes under the hammer at Peter Wilson auctioneers on Market Street November 27-28.
Olympians from Cheshire East have been honoured with the “Freedom of the Borough” to celebrate their success. Athletes such as Beth Tweddle, from Bunbury near Nantwich, and Ben Ainslie, from Macclesfield, were granted the freedom at a ceremony in Congleton.
A medal awarded to the man who aided Lord Nelson after he was shot and killed in the Battle of Trafalgar, could sell for £20,000 at a Nantwich auction. It was feared the Naval General Service Medal with Trafalgar clasp, awarded to James Sharman, would never come on the market again.
