Cheshire East councillors have given the go-ahead for a new Leighton Hospital in South Cheshire which will “secure the future of healthcare provision for decades to come”.

The strategic planning board was unanimous today (June 9th) in approving the outline application for a new six-storey hospital, ancillary buildings, multi-storey car park, access points, parking and associated infrastructure.

Controversial plans for 116 homes in the open countryside at Audlem have been recommended for refusal.

Nearly 350 objections have been sent to Cheshire East Council opposing Muller Property Group’s outline application for the development, which includes 35 affordable homes, on land west of Moorsfield Avenue and Tollgate Drive.

Cheshire East Council has approved plans for 18 homes on the Doddington Estate near Nantwich with the ward councillor saying the revised application is an improvement on the first which was “shoddy and grossly incomplete”.

The 18-home scheme is the first of 12 applications which will be submitted for a total of 112 homes over the next decade on Doddington Estate land at Bridgemere.
