Cheshire East Council could fail to rake in the £4m it hoped from its garden waste collections because less than two thirds of residents needed have so far subscribed.
As from this month, garden waste will only be collected if residents have paid the new annual £56 subscription fee.

More than 11,300 households in Cheshire East have so far signed up to the council’s subscription scheme to have their garden waste bins emptied from next year.
Of those, 9,500 have already paid the annual £56 charge, which has boosted the council’s coffers by £532,000.
The controversial Cheshire East subscription service for collecting garden waste will open in October ahead of the planned launch in January.
Residents who are willing to pay £56 a year for green waste collections from January will be able to register from October 2.

Cheshire East Council has defended plans to introduce the highest charge in the north west for garden waste collections.
The council plans to start charging £56 a year to empty garden waste bins from January through its subscription service.
Residents in Nantwich and across Cheshire East face paying a £56 “subscription” fee to have garden waste bins collected from January, the council announced today.
Details of the proposed subscription service were unveiled as the council desperately tries to plug a £20 million funding gap in its coffers.
