The Nantwich branch of NatWest Bank was closed today, leaving thousands of customers seeking alternative branches of new banks.
And the reaction was one of disappointment at the loss of a service that many still value.
A police investigation has been launched into alleged “serious unauthorised transactions” involving Audlem Parish Council.
In a statement released by the council, it said both the police and bank are involved in a probe into the financial affairs of the authority.

Police have said no action is to be taken following seven lengthy investigations into Cheshire East Council.
The investigations included allegations relating to land transactions at Middlewich and Crewe.
