A fire which destroyed seven tonnes of hay in a field in Nantwich could have been started deliberately.

Crews from Nantwich were called to a report of hay bales on fire at Fields Farm, close to the railway line off Queen’s Drive.

Firefighters discovered a large blaze with seven tonnes of hay bales and a hedge next to the railway in flames.

They managed to get to the fire by the railway line and used one hose reel to extinguish the hedge and allowed the hay bales to burn out.

Anyone with any information on this incident which happened at around 7.30am today (February 13) can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

In a separate incident, crews were called to a fire involving an oil boiler in a utility room of a home in Coole Lane, Nantwich.

Firefighters isolated the oil, electricity and propane supply, and wearing breathing aparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire.

A large industrial fan was used to clear the smoke and crews removed clothing from around the boiler.

It is believed the fire was caused by a high pressure fuel fault.
