Mayor praises Nantwich Players as town _asset_

The Mayor of Nantwich has praised the amateur drama group Nantwich Players as a major “asset” to the town after watching its latest show.

Cllr David Marren was among packed audiences to watch the Players’ Autumn Production of “Breaking the code” by Hugh Whitmore.

The play is based on the book “Alan Turing: The Enigma” and told the story of Turing’s turbulent life in the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

Cllr Marren said: “With a seating capacity of just 82, I wasn’t surprised that every seat at the Love Lane theatre had been sold, just as they had been all week.

“Earlier in the year, I saw “Ladies Day and “Bunch of Amateurs” and they were really entertaining but “Breaking the Code “just blew my mind.

“It was a fantastic production and Colin Johnston’s portrayal of Alan Turing was just memorising and absolutely brilliant. I was so glad I didn’t miss it.

“I also realised what a brilliant asset The Players’ Theatre is for Nantwich.

“It is a genuine community venture with local members, local helpers and local players punching above their weight.

“It draws in visitors from near and far, many of whom told me they were going on to be “entertained” afterwards in some other part of the town’s night-time economy.

“Well done to everyone involved with Nantwich Players, not just for “Breaking the Code” but for being one of the pillars that makes Nantwich a great community and such a great place to live, work and visit.”

The Players next production will be an adaption of Frances Hodgson’s “The Secret Garden”.
