A driver was taken to hospital after a serious two-car accident on the A525 between Whitchurch and Nantwich.

The incident happened at around 8.30am today (January 14) close to the turning for Ash and New Woodhouses.

One person was left trapped in one of the vehicles and had to be cut free.

Emergency services closed the busy A525 in both directions, with police, fire service and paramedics on the scene.

An air ambulance landed in a field close by to transport injured to hospital.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue said: “Three fire appliances were mobilised from Wellington and Whitchurch. An Operations officer was in attendance.

“Crews used equipment to deal with the incident, including combi tools, cutters/spreaders and electric saws/cutters.

“Also at the scene of the incident were the air ambulance, land ambulance and the Police.

“It was a road traffic collision involving two saloon cars. One person trapped.

“Crews used holmatro and electrical cutting gear to free the casualty.

“The casualty was left in care of ambulance crews. We were assisted by Cheshire Fire and Rescue.”
