The Nantwich economy suffered a further blow today as Nantwich Food Festival directors announced September’s event will NOT go ahead.

The festival attracts tens of thousands of people every year and was due to take place on September 4-6.

But we revealed last month that organisers were in doubt whether such a large event across the town was viable even if lockdown restrictions were eased.

And in a statement today, directors said: “It is with great sadness that we are announcing the cancellation of this year’s Nantwich Food Festival.

“We know that many people will be disappointed, but the health and safety of all those involved in the event has to be our top priority and we feel that this is the responsible decision to make in the current circumstances.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts are with our exhibitors, sponsors, visitors, volunteers, local community and the many people who help us put on a fabulous event each year – we will be back with you all, better than ever on 3rd, 4th and 5th September 2021.

“Stay safe and look after each other.”

A Nantwich Town Council spokesperson added: “Such a popular event in our town which will be sadly missed, but a completely understandable decision.”

Other major events already cancelled include Nantwich Show and Nantwich Jazz Festival.
