A major road between Nantwich and Chester was closed today after a serious collision, believed to have involved two cars and a private ambulance.

Four people have been injured in the accident which happened on the A51 Chester Road close to Snugburys ice cream farm in Hurleston.

Two air ambulance helicopters were flown to the scene and landed in a nearby field.

Numerous land ambulances were also deployed.

Cheshire Police closed the road between the Bluestone lights junction and the Red Fox at Tarporley.

Police are warning motorists to avoid the area and take alternative routes.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At 2.10pm today, (Wednesday 9 July) police were called to a three vehicle collision outside Snugbury’s on the A51 Chester Road, Hurleston.

“The road is currently closed between Bluestone Lights and Red Fox at Tarporley while emergency services work at the scene. Please avoid the area.”

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We have responded to an RTC on the A51, Chester Road near Nantwich following a 999 call at 14:09.

“The collision reportedly involved a car and a third-party private ambulance.

“We dispatched significant resources to the scene, including two critical care teams in helicopters, four ambulances, two solo paramedics in response vehicles, two volunteer first responders and a duty officer to manage the scene.

“Four patients in total have been treated and taken to hospital for further treatment.”

  1. My dad and I were there and unfortunately saw/heard it happen, I hope that everyone makes a full recovery. We didn’t appreciate the amount of people eating ice cream who wandered over to stare at the scene as though it were some sort of macabre entertainment.

    1. Horrendous road along its full stretch.
    2. Road width is insufficient for amount of heavy traffic
    3. Speed restrictions need to be put in place along its full length
    (better signage, speed humps, speed cameras, etc etc)
    4. Crumbling road surface
    5. Drivers need to remember you will get from A to B if you drive sensibly

    ACCIDENTS ON A51 WILL ONLY INCREASE, WITH FATALITIES.
