Fire crews spent almost 18 hours tackling a large compost fire on land in Hunsterson, near Nantwich.
Crews from Nantwich and Audlem were first called out at around 6.20pm last night (October 12) to land off Pewit Lane, Hunsterson.
They found the fire involved around 150 tonnes of compost.
Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used three hose reel jets to dampen the flames, as well as using onsite machinery to create fire breaks to prevent further spread.
A second, smaller compost fire was discovered nearby, involving around 50 tonnes.
Firefighters remained at the incident throughout the night, continuing to dampen down and monitor the area with thermal imaging cameras.
And crews were still there at midday today (October 13) making steady progress. Relief crews were brought in throughout the duration of the incident.
Cheshire Fire said: “Turning over and dampening down the compost will continue until crews are satisfied there is no further risk of reignition.”
