CGD Tiger on course - hope House golf fundraiser

Golfers helped to raise more than £13,000 for children’s hospices at a fundraising event at the Portal Hotel & Spa golf Championship course in Tarporley.

The Hope House Tŷ Gobaith Cheshire golf day, sponsored by Recycling UK, was classed as a major success and raised a brilliant £13,250.

A total of 21 teams of four enjoyed a shotgun start on the course and were challenged to “beat the pro” on the 14th hole and even took part in a “Nearest the Gin” competition which was won by Ian Greenhough.

After an afternoon’s competition, Hotpoint Golf Society from North Wales had the lowest score and were crowned winners, with Oliver Keegan the Individual Winner. The Longest Drive went to Dave Richards.

Neil Clarke, managing director of Recycling UK, said: “What a brilliant golf day we had at Portal Championship golf course last week which was organised by Claire Penney of Hope House/Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospices.

“The whole event was really well-organised starting with a breakfast bap, 18 holes of golf and culminating with an evening meal and awards presentation.

“The whole event went very well, and we were proud to be headline sponsors.

“At the evening reception, players were treated to a two-course meal and there was a prize draw and auction.”

Claire added: “This is an incredible total raised for the hospices, and we really couldn’t have done it without the strong support of Neil and the team from RUK.

“We were blessed with great weather which helped make the day, but the real stars were the kind teams who took part and dug deep to help local children and families living with a life-threatening illness.

“Cheshire’s golfing and business communities really are so community-minded and generous.

“Thanks so much again to Recycling UK.”
