youth centre lottery grant

The Nantwich Youth and Community Centre has been awarded a £20,000 grant by the National Lottery Community Fund.

Staff and members are celebrating the cash boost which will help fund dedicated youth workers at the centre on Birchin Lane.

The NYCC was opened a year ago after major refurbishment work of the former Guy Harvey Youth Club building.

Since then it has provided an essential social venue for youngsters in the town, and delivered vital services to children.

Nantwich Town Cllr Anna Burton, a trustee and chair of NYCC, said: “We’re absolutely delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund has once again recognised the impact of our work.

“This grant allows us to employ dedicated youth workers who provide young people with opportunities to socialise, develop skills, and be part of a strong, supportive community.

“The NYCC helps young people thrive from the very start of their journey, laying the foundation for future success and fulfilment.”

Leah Austen-Garrett, a senior youth worker at the centre, added: “We are incredibly grateful for this support.

“The grant enables us to continue to offer youth recreational services that make a real difference to young people and their families.

“Our youth club is bustling with activity every week, and thanks to this funding, we’re recruiting additional youth workers to meet demand. Check our website for details!”

The centre team want to provide a safe and nurturing environment where young people can hang out, learn social skills, and explore activities from crafts, baking, team sports, gaming and music.

The club’s facilities include:
• Pool, table tennis, and table football
• Board games and a book swap
• PlayStation 5 and WiFi
• Outdoor courts and sports hall
• A well-being room and learning kitchen
• Pop-up cinema

NYCC also hosts a range of clubs and societies, such as a Dungeons and Dragons club, Scouts, Beavers and Cubs, Home Educators and Feel Good Gold.

The latest lottery funding ensures NYCC can continue to provide an essential venue and service for the town.
