South Shields - return to action - Nantwich Town FC - Weaver Stadium (2)

Nantwich Town’s home game against Darlaston was abandoned in the second half following an alleged racist outburst by someone in the crowd.

The Dabbers were leading 3-1 at the time when a Darlaston player was allegedly a victim of a racist comment from the crowd.

The game was halted and the incident reported to officials.

One individual was then ejected from the ground.

But the visiting team from the Walsall area declined to continue the Northern Premier League West match and it was abandoned in the 71st minute.

In a statement, Nantwich Town said: “Following an alleged inappropriate comment from a member of the crowd towards a Darlaston player and following a prolonged stoppage, whereby a member of the crowd was ejected from the stadium, the Darlaston players collectively felt they were unable to continue the game the game which Nantwich were leading 3-1.

“Whilst this is bitterly disappointing for all concerned, the club has zero tolerance towards any inappropriate behaviour and comments and fully supports and respects Darlaston’s decision.

“The club has followed the full and correct processes in dealing with this and will await further instruction from the League following the referee’s report and we will provide further updates following this.”

Darlaston also issued a statement after the match.

They said: “Following an alleged inappropriate comment made by a spectator towards one of our players, and after a prolonged stoppage during which the individual concerned was removed from the stadium, our players collectively took the decision that they were unable to continue the fixture.

“While this is a disappointing outcome for all involved, Darlaston Town maintains a zero-tolerance stance towards any form of inappropriate behaviour or language.

“The welfare and wellbeing of our players will always remain our priority.

“The club will continue to support the relevant processes and will await further guidance from the League following the referee’s report. We will provide further updates in due course.”

Seems your no better than the chap shouting at the football having tarnished the whole town with your little outburst – I’m sure Nantwich is all the better for you having left it!

Is the game awarded to Nantwich, with a 3 – 0 score, or is it played again ?

  3. Hope this incident was reported to the police…

Doesn’t surprise me, I lived in Nantwich for 20 years and it’s very much a little England mentality to the town. Good to see Darlaston leave the pitch to make their point.

  5. Thought the game was played in good spirit, a few niggles occasionally but nothing out of the ordinary. Dabbers were playing well, shame it was stopped due to one fool thinking it was ok to shout obnoxious comments.
Don’t blame Darlaston for walking off, but them being 3 – 1 down leaves a niggling thought would it have happened if the score was reversed with just 20 minutes left.

  6. Perfectly understandable the Darlaston Players felt the need to register their disgust and protest by not completing the match but it’s a shame one solitary Uber-vile Imbecile was allowed to wreck the event for 99% decent right-minded folks in attendance.

On reflection tho’, perhaps resolutely finishing the Game would have been the most appropriate response to ensure victory over odious bigotry will most irrevocably always prevail?….

  7. Sounds like a Senegal and Morocco situation!!

Unbelievable out of all the effort made by the teams to be then be wasted due to an outburst of this kind, this is 2026 not 1826, yob should be named and shamed and taught some history
