Crewe Vagrants Women team have been crowned county softball champions after a thrilling final over victory.
The Willaston-based team secured their place at the County Finals Day after winning the South One division of the Cheshire Women’s Cricket League last summer.
The original event was postponed in September due to poor weather and was rescheduled to mark the start of the 2026 season.
Winners of each regional division travelled to Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club to battle it out for the top spot.
Crewe played Macclesfield and Sale in the group stage, setting the tone with two fine performances and two wins.
That took them through to a grand final vs Old Parkonians who had beaten Elworth and Widnes in the opposite pool.
It was a thrilling final with Crewe’s clinical fielding and eight wickets taken keeping the opposition in check in the first innings.
Chasing a target of 67 to win, Crewe held their nerve in a tense final over, securing the victory on the final ball to become county champions.
Crewe Vagrants has expanded its women’s offer this summer with the introduction of a hard ball team.
