A Nantwich man who battled back from a life-threatening heart condition as a child has completed a gruelling challenge to raise funds for charity.

Danny Harrison, 27, hiked the National 3 Peaks, the Yorkshire 3 Peaks and the Welsh 3 Peaks back-to-back in just four days!

He set himself the challenge after surviving a rare heart condition as a teenager which saw him undergo life-saving surgery.

So he wanted to raise awareness and funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a charity which campaigns for more screening and help to diagnose young people with similar conditions.

Danny set off on June 2nd and climbed nine UK mountains, hiked more than 80 miles, and drove more than 1,000 miles between locations.

He said: “Although we were forced to contend with 100mph winds, snow, night hikes and gruelling conditions overall, we managed to complete the challenge on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

Danny conquers another peak

“Over the four days I hiked a total of 80 miles, and conquered 9 UK mountains along the way.

“I was extremely lucky to have an amazing support team by my side the entire way, which consisted of my wife Jess, who actually climbed three of the mountains herself.

“Without my family and friends supporting me, this challenge would have been impossible, and they without a doubt got me through the toughest days.”

Danny’s fundraiser has now surpassed £2,000, smashing his original target.

“I am extremely proud of it and I can’t thank all those who donated, along with my sponsors enough.

“The money raised will go towards funding the vital heart screenings provided by Cardiac Risk in the Young, helping to prevent unnecessary deaths.

Finding it tough going!

“I am honoured by the support the challenge has received, and I hope to lace up the boots in the future, once a new cause has been found.”

Danny had to undergo heart surgery as a teenager after a rare condition was detected.

“I was very lucky to capture my heart condition early, however many are not so lucky.

“Unfortunately, I have witnessed several young men and women pass away for too soon from heart conditions they had no idea they were carrying.

“Currently 12 UK citizens aged 14-35 die each week from undiagnosed heart conditions in the UK. CRY is on a mission to stop this.

“All the money I raise will go towards funding the vital heart screenings that are capable of identifying these heart conditions before they turn fatal, likely saving lives.”
