Councillor Kim Jamson was today welcomed in as the new Mayor of Nantwich at a town council meeting.
Cllr Jamson, who worked as a primary school teacher for many years, has acted as deputy mayor in 2025-26 and will now chair council meetings throughout the next year.
She said at the town council meeting she was proud and privileged to take on the role.
She added: “I am very thankful to have supportive people around me, and I want to dedicate my time celebrating the wonderful volunteers we have in our town.
“From community groups and charities and every day acts of kindness, they make it the neighbourly and welcoming place that Nantwich is.
“I look forward to representing our town with pride over the coming year ahead.”
She has chosen three local causes as her Mayor’s Charities for 2026-27, which will benefit from fundraising activities during her mayoral year.
These are the Jabbin Dabber boxing club on Welsh Row, the Cheshire Young Carers organisation, and RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre.
“Jabbin Dabber is dedicated to improving opportunities and discipline for young people of all ages, and they welcome anyone of any age,” added Cllr Jamson
“Many know I volunteer for Cheshire Young Carers, which focuses on young people aged 6 to 18 and offers holiday respite and individual and group support when needed.
“And RSPCA Stapeley Grange do some amazing work to save and rehabilitate sick and injured animals.
“In particular, we all know how important wildlife around our Nantwich Lake is, they bring such joy to many of us.”

The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr John Priest, after a narrow vote approve a nomination made by Cllr Loic Charbonneau.
Cllr Caroline Kirkham raised concerns about Cllr Priest’s nomination due to his attendance record, saying: “There is a commitment with that role and we would expect that person to be present and represent the town.”
Cllr Priest replied: “I do have a very demanding full-time job, but I am soon reaching retirement and I am fully committed to this role and would be honoured to represent this town.”
Five councillors supported the nomination, five voted against. Mayor Cllr Jamson had casting vote and approved the nomination.
