1925 Model T Ford - Weaver Wander

The popular “Weaver Wander” event in Nantwich and surrounding areas has helped raise more than £3,000 for local charities, organisers have confirmed.

The event, organised by Rotary Club of Crewe & Nantwich Weaver, sees scores of classic and vintage cars drive on colourful convoy from Nantwich town centre and through rural Cheshire.

Drivers taking part make a donation and funds raised will go to three charities this year – Hopes and Beams, Paws for Freedom and Race against Dementia.

Other charities and local community organisations will be supported later in the year.

The Weaver Wander is now a fixture in the Nantwich town calendar and for the first time for several years an agreement was reached with the local authorities to launch the event in the Town Square.

Around 150 cars registered for the event and gathered at Crewe Vagrants before setting off at 10am for a ‘Start Parade’ in Nantwich Town Square.

Vehicles were ‘Set Off’ by new Mayor of Nantwich Cllr Kim Jamson, in one of her first civic events.

The first car away was Steve Elnor in his 1925 Model ‘T’ Ford, which was later awarded the Fred Bowers trophy for the Best Car.

Andy Cox followed in his 5.8 litre AC Cobra and then by an impressive procession of classic cars, including a 740 horse power Lamborghini Aventador driven at 5mph by James Shenton.

Club spokesperson Simon Yates said: “Despite the rather changeable weather, the ‘Wanderers’ all enjoyed their day and, in particular, the Start Parade in Nantwich in front of a good crowd of spectators.

“It was interesting to hear that the local traders were pleased with the increased foot-fall in the town that the Wander created and also that Nantwich Town Council would like to see the Weaver Wander Start through the square next year.”

Trophies were presented at Crewe Vagrants when all cars had returned.

The Melvyn Reynolds Trophy for the Best Spirit of the Event was won by Jonathan Gray in his DeLorean DMC-12.

And the President’s trophy for the Best Club presentation was won by the Manchester and North Cheshire Stag owners Club.
