A man has been arrested after a serious crash on the M6 motorway close to junction 16 exit for Crewe and Nantwich.
Five people were injured, two seriously, in the incident which involved two cars and a lorry on the southbound carriageway.
Paramedics, fire crews and an air ambulance attended the scene which happened between junctions 16 and 17 at about 2.40pm today (December 22).
Fire crews had to cut people from the wreckage. The lorry, a tanker, was not carrying hazardous material.
The carriageway was closed for a time, and queues were tailing back almost 10 miles at one stage.
Five people have been taken to hospital − two have sustained serious injuries.
One man, a 47-year-old from Merseyside, has been arrested at the scene by Cheshire Police on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit.
