CEC should raise council tax rate on empty homes, says councillor

Cheshire East Council should consider increasing the council tax rate on empty homes to help boost its coffers and help the housing crisis, a councillor has said.

Cheshire East currently charges the full amount of council tax for properties that are empty for between one and five years, 200% for those empty between five and 10 years and 300% for any that have been vacant for more than 10 years.

Nantwich councillors have backed plans to help local boxing club Jabbin Dabber expand into more venues across the town.

The club, based on Welsh Row, is keen to use facilities like Nantwich Civic Hall and the Nantwich Youth Community Centre (NYCC) to stage boxing events and activities.

Work on a new primary school in Nantwich is to get underway with an opening date set for September 2026.

Construction work will start on Monday (June 2nd) on Kingsbourne Academy primary school, a new, 210-pupil school on the Kingsley Fields housing development.

Cheshire East councillors have given the go-ahead for two residential schemes on land earmarked for commercial use in Nantwich.

But one councillor said he hoped this was not seen as an invitation for developers to submit housing applications on land allocated for employment.

The authority has announced Investment plans which will see more than £53 million spent on improving the condition of the borough’s highways and infrastructure.

CEC planners set to approve eco burial ground in Shavington

Cheshire East Council is next week expected to give the go-ahead for coffin burials to take place at an ecological burial ground at Shavington, writes Belinda Ryan.

Santune Meadows is a natural burial site which already has permission for urn interments.

Two hundred of Cheshire East Council’s 3,200 staff have an access card to park for FREE in the multi-storey car park in Crewe.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service asked the council about staff parking after a Crewe businessman said he had witnessed cars leaving
at the same time on numerous days and driving straight through on number plate recognition.

Huge 660-home development plans for Wistaston unveiled

A large 660-home estate, together with 60-bed care home and local centre including shops is proposed for land at Wistaston.

An environmental impact assessment (EIA) scoping report from planning agent Turley, states applicant Hawthorn Estates Investments intends to submit an outline application to Cheshire East Council for the scheme on land off Wistaston Green Road.

Plans for 49 retirement apartments in Nantwich set to be approved

Plans for a 49-apartment retirement living scheme on Maylands Park in Nantwich have been recommended for approval.

The application site is part of a larger area to the south of Peter De Stapleigh Way at Stapeley which was granted permission on appeal in 2020 for mixed-use development.
