Cheshire East councillors have voted through the final version of a new Local Plan Strategy which is to be sent to Government for endorsement. The Plan proposes a number of policies which impact on Nantwich and surrounding areas over the next 15 to 20 years.
Wistaston residents are celebrating after a planning application to build up to 300 homes on “Green Gap” land was thrown out. Gladman Homes wanted to develop on the land off Church Lane, known locally as “Witters Field”.
A planning application for dozens of new houses in a busy village near Nantwich looks set to be refused. The plans submitted for 40 homes to the rear of Eastern Road in Willaston by Richard Lee Ltd, have sparked objections from campaigners.
Planning Minister Nick Boles has vowed to meet Nantwich and Crewe campaign groups fighting the loss of “Green Gap” areas. Mr Boles’ pledge comes after concerns of hundreds of residents were raised by local MP Edward Timpson.
Councillors have warned residents to make their views known about plans for 170 new homes in their Nantwich village. Richborough Estates have applied to build the houses on land off Moorfields, in Willaston.
By Jonathan White Cheshire East Council Leader Michael Jones faced concerned villagers in Wistaston over controversial housing development plans. He attended a packed Wistaston Parish Council meeting to discuss plans by developers for thousands of new homes in the village.
A new group called “Hands Off Wistaston” has been set up to protect the village’s Green Gap from development. Campaigners hope the group will help defend Wistaston against “unnecessary, unsustainable and unwanted development”.

Willaston residents have hit out at plans to build 21 new homes on land off Cheerbrook Road, Nantwich. They believe the village cannot cope with more houses which will increase traffic, loss of open space and put pressure on local services.
A 4,000-name petition calling for the Green Gap around Nantwich and Crewe to be protected, has been backed by local MP Edward Timpson. Campaigners launched the “Save the Green Gap” effort in Willaston two years ago to safeguard the area from excessive urban development.
