More than 400 laptops have been distributed to Cheshire College learners to help teaching, learning and assessment remotely over the last 12 months.

The “One Million Laptops programme” announced in December 2020, guaranteed more than one million devices would reach schools, colleges and councils.

Labour councillors have offered to support Crewe and Nantwich school headteachers in the fight to secure adequate equipment for home learning during lockdown.

They have created a Facebook Group “Lockdown Laptops for Home Learning in Crewe & Nantwich”, asking local residents to donate unused or unwanted laptops and tablets directly to schools to be distributed to children who require them.

Vulnerable children in Cheshire East were given hundreds of laptops from the Government during the coronavirus lockdown, new figures reveal.

The Department for Education provided 200,000 devices to local authorities and school trusts between May and July to help children access remote learning while schools were closed.
