Two popular Nantwich venues are to stage a “Madhatters” street party to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Bosses of Firenze restaurant and The Cheshire Cat have been given the go ahead to close a section of Welsh Row to traffic to stage the event.

The fancy dress themed party will take place from 10am to 5pm on Monday June 4, with all funds raised going to Rotary of Crewe and Nantwich’s charitable causes.

There will be a host of activities on offer, including street entertainers, face painting, fancy dress competition, classic cars and engines display, traditional stalls, street food and drink and more.

Welsh Row will be closed between First Wood Lane and Second Wood Lane between 10am and 5pm.

Entry to the family fun event os free.

“The theme is a “Madhatters” Jubilee Party and there will be prizes for fancy dress for all ages,” said director Louise Bastow.

“All proceeds will go to The Rotary of Crewe and Nantwich for them to distribute between their chosen charities.”

It’s one of several events taking place in the Nantwich during the Bank Holiday Jubilee weekend.

On Sunday June 3, as part of the national “Big Lunch” initiative, Nantwich Town Council is helping to stage a big celebration in the town centre.
