Hotel bosses in Nantwich have apologised for a late-night fireworks show which disturbed thousands on a midweek school night.
Warner Leisure held the 7-minute display to mark the £12.5 million re-opening of Alvaston Hall Hotel, in Nantwich.
Strictly Come Dancing star Len Goodman was on hand to perform the opening with many other invited along.
But it was no dance in the park for thousands of residents in Nantwich, Wistaston and Willaston.
Many took to social media to complain about the noise waking up and scaring young children and pets.
One resident from Wistaston said he was outraged by what he called “Alvaston Hall’s complete lack of consideration for the community”.
“Warner hotels posted a video of the display on their Facebook page,” he said.
“But after many residents started posting comments condemning them for a lack of respect for the community, they have since deleted the post!”
Others said they could hear it as far away as Stapeley and Nantwich lake area.
Another resident tweeted to Warner: “Thanks for disturbing my entire household with your fireworks at 10.45pm on a Thursday with no prior warning!”
But Bourne Leisure, who run Warner Hotels including Alvaston Hall, said they were granted permission by Cheshire East Council to stage the display so late.
Katie Badger, spokeswoman for Bourne Leisure, told Nantwichnews: “We were given permission by the local council to put on the display any time up until 11pm.
“So as to limit the disturbance to our neighbours we brought it forward to 10.30pm.
“It was a short 7 minute display that was a one-off occurrence, but we do apologise for any disturbance caused to the local residents.”
The £12.5 million refurbishment of Alvaston Hall Hotel, of the A530 Middlewich Road, includes a new bar, cabaret restaurant, landscaped gardens and water features, 113 new bedrooms, and increased parking.

Get over yourselves as if a fireworks display is effective in daylight!! Durr fairplay alvaston hall. Ignore these losers who have nothing better to moan about! Look at the state of your country you live in fireworks are the last of your troubles!!!!!!
Not being funny but at 10:45 a night is very inconvenient, for those with very young children this scared them. This was the wrong time for them to happen if it was earlier then you would not get that problem.
I actually enjoyed the display, It’s good to see a business expand and not like so many of the shops in Nantwich and Crewe shut up and close down. The people complaining should realise that If Alvaston Hall don’t expand then the area will suffer, How many more hotel and catering jobs have been created because of this expansion.
Some people ought to get a life, there are plenty of bad things to complain about rather than a one off fireworks display. Moan about everything
