The Nantwich Turnpikes 1744 – 1880 exhibition is in its final week at Nantwich Museum.
The exhibition is by Dr Keith Lawrence and staged in the Community Gallery at the Pillory Street venue.
This is the last chance to discover the fascinating story of the local turnpike roads before it closes this Saturday November 8.
It is a story which began with an Act of Parliament in 1555.
With maps and illustrations, visitors can learn of the routes, how they came about, how the roads were constructed and maintained, the variety and location of the tollgates and the rivalry between the towns and local landowners through which the roads passed.
Dr Lawrence donated copies of his book The Turnpike Roads around Nantwich, Cheshire for sale in the museum shop to benefit museum funds.
It has proved popular and copies are fast selling out.
Meanwhile, a talk postponed from September will also take place on Saturday November 8 at 3pm.
Mary Hennessy-Jones and Eira Cotteril will speak on Arts and the First World War.
Tickets cost £3 (Museum Mmmbers £2) and are available from the museum shop.
