Colleagues at a building society branch in Nantwich will be brewing up to mark a successful year of fundraising for Marie Curie.
Yorkshire Building Society’s Hour of Need campaign has been celebrating its first birthday – and has clocked up £300,000 in 12 months.
The campaign was launched in June 2014 and has already raised enough to support 15,000 hours of Marie Curie nursing.
Every £20 raised by the society funds one hour of Marie Curie nursing care.
And thanks to the efforts of colleagues and the support of customers and members of the public in Nantwich, the branch has collected nearly £400 for the charity.
The tea party at Yorkshire Building Society, on the High Street, is taking place on Tuesday June 23, with colleagues serving cream teas to customers.
Caris Bayley, manager of the Nantwich branch, said: “The Hour of Need campaign is having a real impact on terminally ill people and their families in providing Marie Curie nursing support.
“This is the Society’s most successful ever national fundraising campaign and this is all thanks to the commitment that our colleagues and members have shown in helping to raise £300,000 for Marie Curie.”
Colleagues will also be hosting a Blooming Great Brain Teaser and Name the Bear competitions.
The tea party is being backed by the Cream Tea Society and jam-maker Tiptree and Cornish clotted cream manufacturer Rodda’s, who have donated 15,000 portions of strawberry jam and clotted cream to 230 branches.
The society’s tea party will join others taking place across the country between June 20-29 as part of Marie Curie’s Blooming Great Tea Party fundraising.
Yorkshire Building Society colleagues will also be attempting to set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest cream tea party in multiple venues in aid of Marie Curie.
The fundraising challenge will be held on Thursday June 25 across the society’s main office sites.
