Nantwich Singers are to stage a one-off event for Gilbert and Sullivan lovers!
The group’s new musical director Alison Phillips is inviting fans to sing HMS Pinafore with them at an afternoon workshop.
It will be followed by a performance early evening on October 17.
Accompanying Alison will be John Gough.
Singers spokeswoman Tiki Wilson said: “This will be an entertaining and informal event, full of musical fun and comedy, and a way of introducing Alison to a wider audience.
“She is already well-known in the Nantwich community and further afield as a leading professional Soprano soloist.
“And she has been a member of the Nantwich Singers for many years!”
Alison studied at the Northern School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music.
She was a member of the BBC Northern Singers and as a solo oratorio singer she has sung with choral societies throughout the North West of England.
Alison (pictured, right) has combined her work in primary schools with her singing, both as a solo singer and also as a member of The Nantwich Singers.
John is a solo pianist, accompanist and duo player.
He has performed on BBC Radio 3, Classic FM and as soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Northern Chamber and Philharmonic ‘Pops’ Orchestras.
He has given recitals in the Wigmore Hall and Purcell Room London, and the Carnegie Hall, New York.
The event will take place at St Mary’s Church, Nantwich, with registration at 2pm, rehearsal 2.15 – 5pm, and evening performance 6pm.
Tickets are £12 singers (£5 for existing Friends of Nantwich Singers), £8 for audience members (£3 for existing Friends of Nantwich Singers).
Music and rehearsal refreshments will be provided.
Dress code – striped t-shirts, baggy trousers and boaters – but not compulsory!
St Mary’s Parish Hall will be available between 5pm and 6pm for you to bring refreshments and use the facilities
Nantwich Singers held a similar event to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in 2012.
