A group of Soul music fans across the country are teaming up for a charity ride from Nantwich – in aid of Motor Neurone Disease.
Nine men, who call themselves “Lycra-clad Soul Boys”, will set off from Nantwich and pedal to Bristol this weekend.
And they have already raised their target of £10,000 – with more funds still coming in.
Organiser Chris Anderton said they decided on the 140-mile ride after their friend Paul Thrower was diagnosed with MND in April 2015.
“This is a particularly random illness which strikes without warning and for no real reason,” said Chris.
“As you’ll remember the ice bucket challenges have dramatically raised awareness.
“But there still needs to be far more research into how and why this disease works.
“Paul is facing this disease with great humour and bravery in his usual pant-swinging and retro sock style, which we all know is part of his character!”
In December, the friends met up over drinks in “Seriously Soulful” in Bristol where the idea for the ride was forged to cycle from ‘Dab of Soul Nantwich’ to ‘Seriously Soulful Bristol’.
Chris will be joined on the ride by Ian Bulloch, Dave Lucas, Steve McColgan, John Pearson, Jack Phillips, Kev Rodgers, Steve Wagstaff and Phil Wainwright.
The event will be over two days (May 13-14).
