Six Nantwich cyclists are to pedal more than 520 miles across five countries in just 48 hours – in aid of The Wingate Centre at Wrenbury.
The novice cyclists will tackle The Wingate Centre 5 Nations Cycle Challenge later this month.
The gruelling ride will take them through North Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England to raise vital funds for The Wingate Centre.
The team consists of four men and two women and each rider will cover a personal distance of almost 200 miles as they aim to complete the 520-mile circuit in 48 hours.
Riders will pedal out in pairs for two-hour stints before swapping with their team mates.
They will complete the ride in a non-stop relay format – only sleeping in a minibus between stints.
Rider Scott Armstrong, of ride sponsors Concert Networks, said: “As soon as I visited The Wingate Centre it was impossible to turn down the challenge!
“It’s an amazing place and the facilities are incredible.
“As a parent the thought of a child not ever being able to experience a holiday really hits home, which is why it’s so important that places like The Wingate Centre exist.
“The team has been training hard and I’m really excited about the challenge!”
The team has set a £5,000 fundraising target, which will subsidise 33 children and carers for a 5-night holiday at the centre.
Costs have been subsidised by local companies including sponsors Crystal Legal and Graham Heath Construction as well as Shallcross Developments, Scott James Plumbing and Heating, Baywater Healthcare, Concert Networks, HJ Lea Oakes and Webbs House Furnishers.
Founder Graham Heath said: “We are incredibly proud to be supporting the local community that we call home.
“We are well and truly cemented in Cheshire and it is fantastic to be able to support The Wingate Centre, which is literally on our doorstep and provides such great support for the area.
“This is a huge challenge and we will be backing them all the way.”
Tracy Cross, marketing director at Crystal Legal, added: “We are really pleased to be supporting the Wingate Centre this year.
“The centre does an amazing job in the area supporting children and their families and we wish their cyclist the very best of luck in their quest and we look forward to hearing of their success.”
The riders will leave centre on Saturday June 18, where a coffee morning will be held from 10am-12pm to wave them off.
Nantwich Cycling Group, who support other local charities, will be riding from London to Nantwich on July 2 in a 220-mile 15 hour challenge to support the centre.
Each rider will cover the whole distance and they have also route marked and planned the ride themselves.
Katie Heirene, fundraising coordinator at The Wingate Centre, said: “We are overwhelmed by the commitment of all the brave riders taking part in rides for The Wingate Centre.
“We are entirely self-funded and the funds raised for The Wingate Centre really will go such a long way in supporting the life changing work we do here for children and young adults with physical and learning disabilities.”
