Nantwich Town are licking their wounds after being thumped 4-0 away at South Shields.
Dave Cooke’s team suffered a second consecutive defeat in the Evo-Stik Premier League, and now lie 14th after being top after three games.
The Dabbers held their hosts to 0-0 in the first half, despite being under the cosh for most of the first 45 minutes.
But eventually pressure told and the floodgates opened in the second period on Tyneside.
Robert Briggs opened the scoring on 53 minutes from the penalty spot after a handball in the Nantwich box.
Toby Mullarkey almost levelled just moments later but his header was cleared off the line.
And it proved costly as on 61 minutes, Joshua Gillies added a second for the home side after taking a high ball down on the chest and firing first-time thunderbolt past Will Jaaskelainen.
Shields continued to press and finally put the game out of reach on 78 minutes.
Poor defending by Nantwich allowed Ben Pattison to have two cracks at goal, the second of which finds the back of the net.
Then on 81 minutes they rubbed salt into the Dabbers’ wounds when Blair Adams added a fourth from close range.
Gillies almost made it 5-0 in the final few minutes but missed his opportunity.
A bad day at the office for Nantwich, who failed to get their 2-0 Bank Holiday Monday defeat at Witton out of their system.
They have a chance to return to winning ways when they welcome Hyde United to the Weaver Stadium on Tuesday September 4, kick off 7.45pm.
