pear tree kids - thinking day

More than 50 pupils at Pear Tree School in Stapeley celebrated World Thinking Day in style.

A quarter of the school’s pupils are members of a local Scouting group, which was the theme of the day.

Pear Tree headteacher Boo Edleston said: “We have over a quarter of our children in one of the local groups be they Rainbows, Guides, Scouts, Brownies, Beavers or Cubs.

“The children are rightly proud of all that they achieve as members of the Scouting movement so we wanted to celebrate World Thinking Day with them.

“Each child was invited to come to school in their uniform and take part in a special assembly where we looked at what Scouting is and even shared what I used to have to carry in my pockets when I was a Brownie in the 1970s!

“Explaining what a telephone box was and that 2p was carried to make an emergency phone call was very interesting to them.”

This year’s World Thinking Day theme, celebrated on the founder of the movement Lord Baden Powell’s birthday, was Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Lisa Cliff, a Pear Tree classroom assistant at the school and is also a leader of a local Rainbow group, added: “This theme fits very well with the values we teach the children of Pear Tree so it was a perfect opportunity to bring the two together.”
