South Shields - return to action - Nantwich Town FC - Weaver Stadium (2)

Sports fans in Nantwich are being urged to cheer on their local team – in the last local sport before lockdown bites again.

Although “Elite” sport such as the Premier League will continue, the Government insists grass-roots and non-league football has to stop for four weeks.

A spokesman for The Dabbers said: “With new rules and guidance being constantly updated the only thing we currently have penciled in is tomorrow’s game against Mickleover.

“So let’s make it a game to remember. Nantwich Town are currently the only undefeated team in the Pitching In Northern Premier League.”

Nantwich Town have only managed five league games so far, but remain undefeated with two home wins and three away draws.

Kick off tomorrow at the Optimum Pay Stadium is 7.45pm.

Meanwhile, the club has appointed Gary Richardson as the new First Team Match Day Secretary.

Club Secretary Carl Thorpe said:”I’m chuffed to bits to have found someone I feel is a perfect fit for this role.

“There were several very good candidates who applied for the role but Gary, with his life and business experience mixed with his passion for the Dabbers made his appointment a no brainer.

“I have worked with Gary over the last couple of weeks and we are making great progress with settling him into the new role. Gary made his debut in the role with the Nantwich Town FA Trophy win at Redditch at the weekend so it’s a great start!”

Gary added: “Nantwich Town is such an important part of our local community, and as a supporter and season ticket holder, I was so pleased to be able to volunteer, to support our Club Secretary as the new First Team Match Day Secretary.”
