Active travel plan for Nantwich to go out to consultation

An active travel, cycling and walking plan for Nantwich and other towns are to go out to public consultation, says Cheshire East Council.

The draft proposals for the latest “local cycling and walking infrastructure plans” (LCWIPs) were discussed by councillors at a highways committee.

Residents have urged Cheshire East to consider introducing a 20mph speed limit on restricted roads across the borough and asked why it isn’t included in the draft active travel strategy.

The call came at a meeting of the highways and transport committee where councillors were discussing the draft strategy and local cycling, walking and infrastructure plans.

Passengers have placed Cheshire East Council in the top 10 of UK local authorities for how satisfied they are with their bus services.

The survey by the independent public transport watchdog “Transport Focus” found user satisfaction in the borough’s services was 88% – a 5% increase on last year’s results.

A cat who was abandoned with his mum and littermates in a bin bag and dumped by the roadside, starred in one of Channel 4’s “Narrow Escapes” episodes about living on a narrowboat near Nantwich.

Hugo, a black and white male cat, was rescued by the RSPCA 15 years ago when he was found tied-up in a bin bag on the roadside in Surrey.
