Plans to convert the former gasworks site off St Anne’s Lane in Nantwich to a private car park have finally been approved by Cheshire East Council.

The brownfield site, once earmarked for the ambitious Vision for Nantwich mixed use redevelopment, had previously received outline planning permission for a scheme that included apartments, a hotel, restaurants and boutique retail units.

Russ Favager, senior responsible officer, told a meeting of the Cheshire East health and wellbeing board the proposal is for a six-storey build, with space allocated for a multi-storey car park.

Nantwich Town have appealed to home supporters to use town centre car parks for its matches at Swansway Stadium and avoid obstructing local roads.

It comes as the club’s spill-over car park area continues to be closed off and used by Network Rail.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service asked the council about staff parking after a Crewe businessman said he had witnessed cars leaving
at the same time on numerous days and driving straight through on number plate recognition.
