Cheshire East Council has secured more than £150,000 from the government to install electric vehicle charging points in its towns.

Work is expected to start on installing the infrastructure in towns across the borough within the next few months.

Cheshire East Council is bidding for nearly £158k of government funding to install electric vehicle charging points in its towns.

The council has identified sites in nine towns – including Snow Hill car park in Nantwich – as part of this phase to install charging points for residents unable to charge vehicles at home.

Electric vehicles rise by 5,750% in Cheshire East with just 34 charging points

Cheshire East has seen a staggering 5,750% rise in electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in seven years but has just 34 charging points, according to latest figures.

Statistics compiled by the BBC Shared Data Unit shows that 1,170 fully electric or plug in hybrid cars, LGVs and quadricycles were registered in the Cheshire East Council authority area in 2018.
