Smoking is becoming much less common across Cheshire East according to new Government figures – but the council insists it will not rest on its laurels.
Figures released by Public Health England show that in 2018, 8.7% of adults across the borough were smokers, compared to 16.4% in 2017.

Borough chiefs are being urged to have a ‘plan B’ for Cheshire East’s economy in case the next prime minister pulls the plug on HS2.
Cheshire East Council is currently working on an economic strategy for the next five years – setting out an ambition to create 6,200 jobs and grow the local economy by at least £15.9 billion per year.

Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester Councils have raked in millions of pounds in land sales in the past five years, latest figures show.
Between them, they raised more than £73 million, according to data produced by the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

Residents in Cheshire East will face an increase in Council Tax from April after members approved the budget for next year.

Councillors have warned that “county lines” drug dealing is beginning to have a serious effect on communities across Cheshire East.
County lines is the practice of urban drug dealers using children to sell drugs in rural areas, villages and smaller towns.
