Cheshire East Council delays decision on axing school meals service

Cheshire East is to hold talks with headteachers about ending its loss-making school meals service but councillors didn’t make the expected decision to close it.

The council’s catering service, operating under the name of Fresh, currently provides lunches and snacks to 87 schools and employs approximately 270 people.

Members of Cheshire East’s children and families committee heard from acting director of education Mark Bayley that the need for extra provision in the town had been highlighted during the recent consultation.

Councillors help Crewe and Nantwich headteachers to acquire devices

Labour councillors have offered to support Crewe and Nantwich school headteachers in the fight to secure adequate equipment for home learning during lockdown.

They have created a Facebook Group “Lockdown Laptops for Home Learning in Crewe & Nantwich”, asking local residents to donate unused or unwanted laptops and tablets directly to schools to be distributed to children who require them.
