Controversial plans for 116 homes in the open countryside at Audlem have been unanimously refused by Cheshire East’s strategic planning board.
Campaigners fear areas of Nantwich are reaching breaking point with the number of new housing projects being planned.
They say roads, schools and infrastructure in the town can no longer cope with more “unsustainable” housing plans being submitted.

Plans have been submitted for 127 homes, including 39 affordable, in Audlem.
Muller Property Group has applied for outline permission for the homes, together with access, on 9.3 hectares of undeveloped farming and grazing land on the south-western edge of the village.

Plans for an 80-bed care home on land previously identified for a school in Nantwich have been recommended for approval.
Muller Property Group is seeking outline permission for the three-storey care home at Maylands Park, together with public open space, access, layout and appearance.
Residents have warned of more traffic chaos after Muller unveiled plans for another 400 houses at their site in Stapeley, Nantwich.
Muller Property Group wants to build a second phase of its Maylands Park site and have posted flyers through hundreds of letterboxes this week.
Muller Property Group has opened a public consultation on its plans to build 127 new homes on land in Audlem.
The developer says their proposal will “help alleviate the local housing shortage in Cheshire East”.
