Cheshire East councillors have given the go-ahead for officers to find sponsors for a new primary school which should be up and running by September 2028.
The free school proposed for Basford East on the outskirts of Crewe was originally due to have opened this month.
School trust bosses have launched a public consultation on the new primary school set to open in Nantwich in September 2026.
North West Academies Trust (NWAT) is holding a Section 10 Consultation under the Academies Act 2010 as part of the statutory process for opening Kingsbourne Academy.
Up to 99% of parents across Nantwich and rest of Cheshire East have secured their preferred primary school place for their child.
The figures emerged on national primary school offer day today (April 16).

Devastated parents of an autistic Nantwich boy say they were given just 48-hours’ notice that he was not welcome back in school – despite spending the previous six years there.
His parents are now demanding an apology after the bombshell news that his primary school was no longer able to provide for his needs.

Plans for a new primary school in Nantwich have been given the go-ahead – although concerns were raised about the lack of parking.
The one-form entry school, which will accommodate 210 children and include additional resources provision for pupils with special educational needs, will be built on vacant land off Richard Gibson Road.
Parents across Cheshire East found out today if they had secured places for their child at a preferred primary school.
And Cheshire East Council say more than 98% have received their preferred school.

Cheshire East is to start looking for potential sponsors to run a new primary school proposed for a site at Basford, near Shavington.
The free school is due to open in September 2025 and will take children from new housing in the area, including the South Cheshire Growth Village.
