Cheshire East highways officers are “dragging their feet” over schemes being funded by councillors’ ward budgets – with one saying Cheshire East faces losing nearly £50,000 of investment because “we can’t get a response”.
Cllr Craig Browne was speaking as the highways and transport committee which discussed the member ward budget scheme.

As a local resident, I know potholes are a widespread problem, but the situation on Wistaston Green Road in Wistaston has reached a truly alarming state and can no longer be brushed aside as “just one of those things”.
From Middlewich Road right through to Valley Road, the surface of Wistaston Green Road is riddled with potholes.
Freezing winter conditions have seemingly ground Nantwich to a halt today with a number of schools shut and roads closed or log-jammed.
While snow and ice may have brought a touch of late festive fun, for some if has caused chaos on Monday with thousands returning to work and school.
Cheshire East Council is set to receive a record funding boost of £77.4 million for fixing roads and potholes.
And there is another £29 million available if the authority publishes “clear pothole and maintenance data”.
Cheshire East Council has 44,000 requests a year from utility companies to dig up roads, it has emerged.
But the authority has slowed down plans to introduce a scheme to speed up roadworks, insisting it must get it right.

I would like to raise a concern that I am sure many local road users will have noticed.
A utility company recently carried out works in our area, digging up several sections of road to repair underground pipes.

The last few weeks has seen many media posts re what CEC is doing to improve our roads, and also why they do most repairs in the summer etc.
This small close of 16 properties has just been visited by CEC’s white spray team to identify pot hole repairs.

Residents have urged Cheshire East to consider introducing a 20mph speed limit on restricted roads across the borough and asked why it isn’t included in the draft active travel strategy.
The call came at a meeting of the highways and transport committee where councillors were discussing the draft strategy and local cycling, walking and infrastructure plans.
Cheshire East Council bosses say they will make their “biggest investment in 10 years” in a bid to improve the much-criticised state of local roads and the transport network.
The authority has announced Investment plans which will see more than £53 million spent on improving the condition of the borough’s highways and infrastructure.

Fed-up residents across South Cheshire have been signing up to a new Facebook group to highlight the growing danger of potholes on the borough’s roads.
In just a few days the new Facebook group – called Cheshire East Pot Hole Surveillance – had attracted more than 700 people

As the days draw in and the clocks go back, the darker evenings create more hazards on our roads for animals.
Sadly, more animals are hit by cars during the winter months so we’re asking drivers to be cautious when they’re out and about.

Cheshire East is to drive ahead with plans to introduce a lane rental scheme to speed up utility firms that dig up roads to carry out repairs.
But local councillors, while welcoming the news, have hit out at the delays in getting the scheme up and running.
