Safety concerns about the entrance to a park in Shavington have been resolved thanks to a local councillor’s ward budget.
Residents had highlighted fears around the pathway leading to the park on Needhams Grange estate off Crewe Road.

Leighton Hospital bosses have applied for permission to build a new two-storey modular ward on its Crewe site.
The Crewe hospital was built in the 1970s using reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete panels (RAAC planks) in the roof which now need replacing on safety grounds.
Elected members of Cheshire East Council will have more cash to spend on highways projects in their local wards next year.
Ward member budgets, introduced in 2021, will increase by 50% from £4,200 to £6,500.

Cheshire East’s audit and governance committee has been asked to look into whether council officers exceeded their powers amid claims a decision taken on Ward budgets may not have been properly implemented.
Ward budgets of £4,200 were allocated to all 82 councillors to spend on highways issues in their areas, following a decision made at full council in February 2021.

Cheshire East Council has refused to allow its councillors to use their ward budgets to pay for gritting on treacherous roads because it goes against its new winter policy.
The Labour/Independent administration axed around 100 roads from its winter gritting route when it introduced its new policy this winter – including busy rural routes like Coole Lane and Checkley Lane near Nantwich.

Ward councillors in Cheshire East are to have an extra £4,200 to tackle issues like potholes from April.
As part of the Cheshire East 2021/22 budget, Cllr David Marren proposed an amendment to the finance plans which would see each member given ‘at least £4,200’ to tackle highway maintenance issues in their area.
Crewe & Nantwich RUFC eased to a fine victory away at Veseyans in their final away game of the season.
But it was a tougher test than the previous week’s 108-0 demolition of Telford to help prepare them for their Cheshire Cup final on April 20.
Candidates who will battle it out in the Nantwich Town Council local elections on May 2 have been unveiled.
In total, there are 16 candidates nominated in the Nantwich North and West Ward, and a further 10 in the Nantwich South Ward.

The full list of candidates for next month’s Cheshire East Council elections have been confirmed.
Voters will head to the polls on Thursday May 2 to decide who they want to represent them on the borough council for the next four years.
Candidates battling for election to Nantwich Town Council have been announced.
Twelve councillors in all will be voted in on May 7 – seven to represent Nantwich and West Ward, and five to represent Nantwich South.
