A luxury furniture designer in Nantwich has received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours List.

Clive Christian, creator of the world’s most expensive perfume, was given the honour for services to the luxury goods industry.

Clive, whose main showroom (pictured) is on the corner of Pillory Street and Hospital Street in Nantwich, launched the company back in 1978.

One of four children, he was born in Dundee but raised and educated in Cheshire and began a career as a freelance interior designer when he left college.

He is famed for creating and launching Clive Christian No 1 (Imperial Majesty) perfume, which is said to retail at an incredible £150,000 for a 500ml bottle.

His actress/model daughter Alice hit the headlines last year when she made it through to the final of the Miss Great Britain competition.

Others from South Cheshire named in today’s New Year’s Honours List include an OBE for Geoffrey Oakes, the former clerk to the board of governors at Reaseheath College in Nantwich, for services to further education.

Julia Crookhall, a volunteer for the Samaritans in Crewe, receives an MBE for voluntary services to mental healthcare in Cheshire.

Denise Coates, founder and chief executive of bet365, from Betchton near Sandbach, receives a CBE for services to community and business.

Her company now emlpoyer more than 1,700 people and has its base in Stoke-on-Trent.
