River Weaver flooding, Nantwich

These remarkable pictures show the extent of localised flooding in Nantwich after the River Weaver burst its banks.

Sent in by Nantwichnews readers Jonathan White and Paul Radbone, the pictures show almost all paths along the river in the town centre are blocked off.

This includes the popular Riverside Loop walk where paths between Waterlode and Queen’s Drive are completely cut off.

Bins and life rings are also submerged and there are fears the river could rise close to street level around Shrewbridge Lodge.

The Environment Agency issued a Flood Warning for this stretch of the Weaver earlier this morning.

The warning urges residents and businesses along the Weaver between the Reaseheath roundabout to the north and the railway line and Nantwich Lake to the south to take immediate action.

More heavy rain is forecast over the next 24 hours so the situation could worsen, environment chiefs have warned.

Floods caused rail delays on the Nantwich to Shrewsbury line today after tracks were partially submerged in the Wem area.

Passengers are advised to check with Arriva Trains Wales before travelling.
