Owners of vacant homes in Nantwich are being warned by councillors to put their houses in order.
Cheshire East Council is cracking down on what it calls “nuisance properties” in the area.
The council has just served notices on two more dilapidated empty properties on Nantwich Road and Gainsborough Road, Crewe.
And they say many more will follow in Crewe and Nantwich if owners don’t bring their empty properties up to scratch.
The authority’s “empty homes team” is using powers under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to serve notices under which owners must upgrade and improve rundown houses.
Cllr Jamie Macrae, Cheshire East Cabinet member in charge of prosperity and economic performance, said: “Empty homes are a wasted resource and a frequent cause of nuisance to neighbours and other residents.
“As an enforcing council, we are determined to tackle the problem of unsightly vacant properties.
“Owners of empty homes are urged to contact our private sector housing team, who can offer assistance and advice in bringing homes back into use.”
Notices served this year on a litter-strewn empty property in Station Road, Handforth, has resulted in improvement works being carried out
Cllr Macrae added: “By tackling nuisance properties real benefits can be gained for local people.
“The people of Cheshire East can be reassured that we will continue to be vigilant and serve notices on problem empty homes as they arise.”
Why are we allowing large housing developments around Crewe & Nantwich when clearly there are already many empty homes which should be utilised first. Get the large building companies to purchase these empty properties, do them up and sell or let them. Only when all houses are occupied then build on green belt.
nuisance properties causing major concern…..what a load of tosh, if the council are so bothered about making homeowners tidy up there properties, then prehaps they should look at there own house, as in nuisance parking on most estates in nantwich e.g volunteer fields, or maybe the poor state of the barony park football pitches that children have to play on every sunday, while risking serious injury due to holes, rubbish, stones and broken glass, or what about the poor quality of road surfaces, eg potholes, damaged speed ramps(manor road)or what about the road surface on vauxhall road(must be the only untarmaced road in nantwich)….suppose many others could add more to this list, personally i think this act by the local council is just yet another waste of tax payers hard earned money…..what a surprise, just recently we as the british public were allowed to vote for a police commissioner, prehaps more importantly we as the public should be allowed to vote on who and where our hard earned money goes within the borough!!!
